After considering winding down earlier this year, Madcaps is thrilled to announce the beloved local theatre group is not only continuing, but it’s stepping confidently into a bright new chapter. Thanks to strong community support and the enthusiasm of new committee members, the future of performing arts in Martinborough is looking vibrant once again. At the group’s AGM, three new committee members were welcomed on board bringing fresh new ideas and renewed passion for keeping local theatre alive. President Steve Lewis says the changes have reinvigorated the society.
“We’ve been part of the Martinborough community for decades and it’s wonderful to see new faces stepping up to help us grow and evolve,” says Lewis. “The energy, creativity and commitment of the new committee have already sparked momentum for our next chapter.”
One of the first community events on the refreshed groups calendar is Christmas in the Square on December 14, a much-loved local celebration that will feature the highly anticipated parade around the square, children’s entertainment featuring much-loved Marty the Dog, singalong Carols and performances from l, The Christmas Rockers as well as local band, Short Circuit.
“Christmas in the Square” is such a special event for Martinborough,” says Lewis. “It’s the perfect way to celebrate together and share the joy of life performance with friends, families and visitors. We can’t wait to be a part of it.”
Looking ahead to 2026, plans are already underway, with details being announced early next year, but Lewis says audiences can expect a showcase of the incredible local talent we have right here in South Wairarapa. With renewed leadership, community support, and an exciting creative vision, Martinborough is ready to shine brighter than ever.
