Greater Wellinton Regional Council Candidate Alistair Plimmer

Oct 2025

When elected to the Greater Wellington Regional Council, my goal is simple: deliver real outcomes for Wairarapa through practical, community-led leadership. I’ll restore trust in decision-making by demanding transparency, clear accounting for rates, spending, and priorities. Communities deserve to know where their money goes and why.

I’ll push for smarter, community led flood protection, including restoring responsible gravel extraction to reduce risk and roading costs.

I’ll fight for reliable public transport, in particular our train service, not in five years, but now, with interim solutions that restores confidence and serves commuters, businesses, and supply chains.

I’ll advocate for serious investment in the Remutaka Hill, treating it as the economic artery it is, not just another maintenance line item.

I’ll work to ensure that GWRC’s work in Wairarapa is refocused so that its interpretation of legislation reflects our environmental realities and supports tourism, hospitality and agriculture, rather than undermining them through ideological interpretation.

Above all, I’ll champion a truly Wairarapa voice, one that reflects rural values, returns power to communities, empowers local leadership, and challenges Wellington-centric governance. Whether through stronger local boards or major reform like a unitary authority, I’ll work with our District Councils to build a system for us that puts communities, not unelected bureaucrats, in control. I’m here to lead progress. Wairarapa deserves better, and I intend to deliver it.
