Living Positively with Parkinson’s

Sept 2025

We would all like to stay in our own homes as we get older, and this is especially so for those living with Parkinson’s.

During August a Living Positively with Parkinson’s seminar was held to find ways to achieve this and what support is available.

Simon Anderson came down from Auckland to outline the support Manawanui gives to allow us to be in control of any support needed. The organisation helps people to manage funding to choose who is employed to deliver the support specifically needed in the home.

Dale Brewster brought along a range of medical alarms and discussed the services provided by St John.

Each Parkinson’s journey is unique. You are still you and you need to find inventive ways to live positively with Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s Wairarapa will again be present at the Longbush Cottage Tulip Festival. We will be there from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 27th and; Sunday 28th September and also Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October.

The Longbush Cottage Tulip Festival is a celebration of the majestic tulip and the return of spring. With the red tulip being the international symbol of Parkinson’s being present in Luke Gardner’s beautiful gardens
is magical.

Our volunteers will be manning the parking and offering refreshments at our pop-up café.

There will be an information table outlining Parkinson’s activities and support groups in Wairarapa. We will also have our beautiful red wooden tulips for sale to help our fundraising efforts to support those living with Parkinson’s.

We will also have a stand at the Ageing with Attitude Expo in Masterton on Wednesday 8th October.
