Jazz in Martinborough

Sept 2025

“It’s always a bit fraught putting together a festival programme and we always wish we could confirm bands and venues earlier,” says Jazz in Martinborough music director Lee Quayle. “Nonetheless, we’ve managed to create a fabulous festival and are pleased to present our programme here,” he adds.

The twelve gigs range from the festival favourite
Ol’ King Cole playing the Concert for Rotary on Thursday 4th to Dusty Needle winding up the weekend at Martinborough Brewery.

“As usual there is an eclectic mix of styles and groupings,” says Lee. “We’ve really pleased to have a big band back playing in our fabulous town hall on Saturday night, with an 18-piece ensemble of some of New Zealand’s finest musicians amongst the Royal New Zealand Air Force Jazz Orchestra.

But we’re also looking forward to the intimate musical stylings of Lockie Bennett on guitar at Nara on Friday afternoon,” he adds. “And of course, everything in between.”

Venues include Runholder, Nara, Parehua and Palliser. “We couldn’t exist without the tremendous support of the venues involved with the festival each year,” says Lee. “Time and again they step up and get behind our funky little festival and help us to entertain Martinborough and our visitors each year.”

The programme was correct at the time of printing but is subject to change without notice. “Please forgive us and the musicians and the venues if, for some reason, things get changed,” says Lee. “Best place to keep abreast of the happenings in the lead up to, and during, the festival is on our Facebook page, happily managed by valiant supporter and helper, Charlotte Harding.”

“We’re super excited about the festival. We’re thoroughly looking forward to a weekend of musical magic. We hope Martinborough enjoys it as much as we hope to,” ends Lee.
