The Elouan Quartet is a newly formed string quartet comprised of NZSO players with a special love of chamber music and performing in more informal and intimate settings.
Along with NZSO principal flute, Bridget Douglas, they will present a captivating programme of music for flute and string quartet by Mozart, Beethoven, Ginastera, Amy Beach, Salina Fisher and Gareth Farr.
The Quartet players are:
Violinist Jessica Oddie. Her very first memory is of the NZSO concert she attended at the age of four, where she fell in love with the violin. She says “I can still easily summon that feeling of childhood awe – of being utterly captivated by the dancing bows of the violin section, the shining instruments beneath the stage lights, and the sheer power of so many people coming together to play music.”

Anna van der Zee studied violin in Wellington, Germany and the USA. Alongside her work in the NZSO, she runs Karori Classics, a series of concerts supporting local charities.
Gillian Ansell, viola, became a founding member of the NZ String Quartet in 1987. She founded the Adam Chamber Music Festival, and has been its artistic Director since 2001. In 2008 she was made a member of the NZ Order of Merit for her outstanding services to music.
London-born cellist Ken Ichinose was appointed Associate Principal of the NZSO in 2014. He returns to London regularly to perform chamber music with his siblings, and to work with the London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic.
Bridget Douglas is well known for her beautiful solos with the NZSO, and also teaches at the NZ School of Music, mentors young students throughout NZ, and is actively involved in performing and commissioning NZ composers to create music unique to Aotearoa.
