Pip Maynard
What is the main reason you are standing for Council?
I have again been asked by members of the Martinborough community to stand again as their voice at the Council table. I believe I still have a lot to contribute to my South Wairarapa community and I remain willing to work with anyone and everyone to achieve the best outcomes for us all in the South Wairarapa.
What previous experience have you had in managing within a business, government agency and/or in any governance role.?
Three trienniums as a Councillor on the South Wairarapa District Council.
Martinborough Community Board
Māori Standing Committee
South Wairarapa Practice Partnership Board
Member of the Waihinga Catchment Group
Manager, Tōhi Gin Room
Manager, Poppies Martinborough
Manager, Customer Care & Complaints, Credit Cards ANZ
What are the three most critical issues that you feel need to be addressed in the South Wairarapa?
The Wastewater issues in Greytown, Martinborough and Featherston. I would like to ensure the necessary work which is already planned and budgeted for, happens quickly and efficiently, allowing connections and new builds in the South Wairarapa.
Our roading network, especially our coastal roads. As the weather bombs become more frequent, we need to look after our rural ratepayers by making sure they are not isolated from the rest of our communities.
Continuing to push Central Government for our Waihinga Bridge to be a priority on ensuring its continued safety and resilience,
by strengthening/widening.
What do you think are the main impediments to progress in the South Wairarapa?
Having to relitigate local decisions made by our communities and ratepayers at the whims of Central Government, and putting the cost onto ratepayers i.e 3 Waters/Local Water Done Well.
New businesses and ventures are opening all the time in South Wairarapa. If you want something and are prepared to work hard for it, there is no impediment to the success that can be achieved.
What do you believe could be done to boost business and increase employment in the South Wairarapa?
Ensure accessibility to our 3 towns. Work closely with Waka Kotahi for safe roads and speeds that fit within each urban area and their unique needs.
Better connectivity – buses and trains in the weekend so people can come for a day trip. The Wairarapa continues to fall well behind the rest of the Greater Wellington Region in being properly resourced.
