Council Candidate – Aidan Ellims

Sept 2025

Aidan Ellims

What is the main reason you are standing for Council?

I want to continue representing the residents and ratepayers of Martinborough as I have for the last 3 years on Council and the previous 3 years while on the Martinborough Community Board.

What previous experience have you had in managing within a business, government agency and/or in any governance role.?

3 years on Martinborough Community Board and 3 years on Council as Chair of the Infrastructure Committee and then Infrastructure Portfolio Lead for Council.

What are the three most critical issues that you feel need to be addressed in the South Wairarapa?

Our immediate infrastructure issues: Waste water in Martinborough, Greytown and Featherston, and the roading issues that we have out east of Martinborough along with the renewal of the Cape Palliser Road Special Road Funding

Getting the new water entity, Wai + T up and running, providing a better service than what we ever got from Wellington Water

Getting growth happening again in the South Wairarapa.

What do you think are the main impediments to progress in the South Wairarapa?

The restrictions on building new houses and connecting to the waste water networks in Martinborough and Greytown, which impacts both our residents and businesses. The regulatory constraints from central government that are in need of reform.

What do you believe could be done to boost business and increase employment in the South Wairarapa?

Get our waste water plants compliant so more houses are built, our tradies and  supply businesses have work, more new residents can move to our district, and then our businesses can thrive.
