Ross Andrew
What is the main reason you are standing for Council?
I am standing for the community board because I believe that many ratepayers, both rural and residential are being overlooked or their concerns are going unheard. I have always been someone who stands up for those whose voices are ignored, and I now feel ready to give back to the community once again.
What previous experience have you had in managing within a business, government agency and/or in any governance role?
I have experience in owning, managing and working in small businesses. Add to that, 18 years of service in the Police at various stations, districts and roles.
What are the three most critical issues that you feel need to be addressed in the South Wairarapa?
Addressing rates rises and accountability of that spending.
Holding councillors and employees of the SWDC to account for their spending and decisions.
I would also like to encourage the council to take steps to reduce unnecessary interference by neighbours in matters relating to general property rights.
What do you think are the main impediments to progress in the South Wairarapa?
Transport links to Wellington.
SWDC bureaucracy
Lack of long term planning (sewage, water to name a few) and listening to the average rate payer.
What do you believe could be done to boost business and increase employment in the South Wairarapa?
I actually don’t have an answer for this at this stage apart from drawing in more permanent residents to the Southern Wairarapa, which will mean reducing the subdivision red tape and encouraging the small to medium business to invest in the SWDC area.
