Community Board Candidate – Anne Boyle

Sept 2025

Anne Boyle

What is the main reason you are standing for Council?

After 12 years in Wellington, my husband and
I moved to Martinborough in 2017. The generosity, community spirit, and entrepreneurial energy here deeply inspired me. Now that my children are a bit older, it’s time to give back, listen, and serve the community. I care deeply about people and am committed to helping our community.

What previous experience have you had in managing within a business, government agency and/or in any governance role?

I co-own Le Coiffeur Hair Boutique on Jellicoe Street with my husband. While not involved in daily operations, co-managing a small business has provided me with valuable insight into the challenges local businesses face. My experience in cultural diplomacy has helped me develop listening skills, which I hope to apply in understanding diverse perspectives and ensuring all voices are heard.

What are the three most critical issues that you feel need to be addressed in the South Wairarapa?

Housing and Infrastructure: The shortage of long-term rental properties and affordable housing, coupled with aging infrastructure (like the sewage system), hampers growth and makes it challenging for newcomers and businesses to settle.

Cost of Living: Rising costs, including property rates, are increasingly putting pressure on individuals, families, and businesses, impacting the overall well-being of our community.

Sustainability: Growth must align with sustainability and eco-friendly practices to ensure long-term resilience for both our community and our beautiful environment.

What do you think are the main impediments
to progress in the South Wairarapa?

Limited infrastructure and space availability hinder growth, job creation, and the ability of newcomers and businesses to settle here. Addressing these challenges is key to sustainable development and better support for the community.

What do you believe could be done to boost business and increase employment in the
South Wairarapa?

Supporting businesses that serve our local community is vital for long-term success. By increasing the availability of commercial spaces and affordable housing, we can attract newcomers, foster the creation of new businesses and services, and create stable jobs. This will strengthen our economy, making it more resilient and self-sufficient, while enhancing the quality of life by providing more local services, products, and resources to everyone in our community.
