Wairarapa Youth Orchestra tunes upfor global showcase

Aug 2025

Every week, the heart of Carterton beats with the rhythm of young talent. Inside St. David’s Church, tamariki and rangatahi from across the Wairarapa instruments in hand, gather for rehearsals.

They’re crafting a truly special concert, designed to transport their audience on a musical journey around the globe.

Under the skilled guidance of conductor Andrew Atkins and dedicated tutors, the Wairarapa Youth Orchestra is diligently preparing a diverse repertoire. Expect to hear sounds from various continents, a rich and engaging celebration of global cultures, all brought to life by the enthusiasm and skill of our local youth.

This isn’t just a performance; it’s a testament to the power of coming together and making music. It’s also a critical fundraiser. The Wairarapa Youth Orchestra provides free orchestral music learning to young people throughout the region, and operates solely on fundraising and donations.

Join us for this inspiring concert on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Wairarapa Events Centre. Your attendance directly supports the future of music education in our community and offers a unique opportunity to experience the world through the vibrant sound of Wairarapa’s young musicians.
