Violinist Amalia Hall and pianist Somi Kim return to Greytown for their NZ Trio Fantastique concert, with Amalia’s brother Callum Hall as guest cellist.
First on the programme is Spanish Composer Joachin Turino’s ” Circulo”, which depicts a single day through dawn, midday and dusk.
Next we will hear Shostakovich’s Piano Trio no 1 in C minor, written when he was only 16, and dedicated to a girl who he had met as a fellow patient at the Crimean Sanatorium where they were both recuperating from tuberculosis.
Chen Yi is a renowned Chinese-American composer, known for blending Chinese and Western musical traditions. Her piece “Tibetan Tunes” creates a fusion of traditional Tibetan melodies.
John Psathas’s new work, Angelus follows, recently commissioned and premiered by the NZTrio.
Finally we will hear Cesar Franck’s Piano Trio no 1 in F sharp minor – charming, intimate and explosive.
