For those still paying attention: South Wairarapa rates on average are up 4.3 percent for 2025 – 2026 (July – June year). The increase was approved without comment.
For the record, the average rate increase for a mid-range property in Featherston is 10.6%, Greytown 8.2%, Martinborough 8.3%, and Lifestyle 6.8%. Others have much smaller increases – or reductions.
The Supper Room meeting of the full council on June 25 completed the long drawn-out Long Term Plan planning task to the clapping of a single pair of hands. Which was a little more than the sound of one hand clapping.
Mayor Martin Connelly broke out the only applause as a unanimous vote made the much-wrangled several hundreds of pages of LTP documentation into a formally-approved legal and enforceable regulation. The LTP covers the period 2025 – 2034.
For the record: Councillors Rebecca Gray (mover) and Colin Olds (seconder) moved the vote.
Asked by Connelly for any discussion, there was none. Apparently all the talking had been done.
