The course has been cold, but the golf has been hot with great conditions given the frosts and wet weather. Huge thanks go to Michael Bing (greenkeeper) and his team for ensuring that golf can go ahead during this time of year. The greens are amazing.
The weather has been very kind and not many days have been lost to the course needing to be closed. As our Facebook page noted – course open, free mud!
There have been no major tournaments over the last few weeks but our wonderful patron, Mariana McDermott, had a hole in one at the tender age of 80 something!
The clubhouse offerings continue to evolve, and it is becoming increasingly popular as a venue for functions and events. The South Wairarapa Rotary Club held their changeover dinner a few weeks ago with the Featherston Room looking pretty in pink.
The most exciting news is that the club is offering meals every day, with daytime and evening menus.
Yummy additions such as Bao Buns and ribs have been added and there will be chef specials. The daytime menu runs every day from 12pm to 5pm. On Thursday it runs to 6pm. The evening menu is available on Friday and Saturday from 5 – 7 pm and on Sundays a warming Sunday Roast from 5 – 7 pm. Bookings for the roast are essential and preferred for other evenings. Either call the office or check out the menus and online booking through Facebook. Non golfers are welcomed and can join as a non-playing member for $2 which allows unlimited access to the clubhouse for 12 months.
Taking advantage of the winter evenings, the three All Blacks vs France games have been shown live with enthusiastic supporters (golfers and non-golfers) enjoying the game, food and bar. Future sporting events (not just rugby) will be shown, keep up to date on the Facebook page or check with the office.
Work continues on the landscaping and surrounds of the clubhouse. It will look spectacular in summer. If you haven’t checked out the new clubhouse pop by and have a look, it’s a great facility not only for golfers but the community.
