Hole-in-one, Swilcan Bridge, new golf food

July 2025

Lunch is served at the annual ladies interclub field day.

Winter has definitely set in but there are still many hardy golfers out there and enjoying some calm if cold weather. Just a reminder to anyone who may have booked an early round of golf, there is no play on the course before 9.30am on frosty mornings – and we’ve had a few!

The weekly club competitions have seen some great scores and a hole-in-one to John Taylor on the challenging 16th – well done.

King’s Birthday Monday saw the bi-annual Martinborough Kindy tournament, fund-raising for a great cause. It was as usual hotly contested between 36 teams, with lots of visitors participating. The winning team on the day with nett 53.37 was Rihari Carroll, Teimana Carroll, Tauwera Roberts and Nikora Roberts. Thanks to everyone for participating and the army of helpers from the kindy.

On Monday 16 June Martinborough hosted the Wellington region ladies interclub field day.

Traditionally hosted by a Wellington club it was fabulous to have the honour of hosting in the Wairarapa. Thirteen clubs participated with over 80 players hitting the course. Miramar were the victors with Masterton 1 second and Masterton 2 third. Martinborough black (based on the colour of their shirts) Angela Busby, Felicity Warren, Emily Loughnan, Carol Parkinson, Julie Dondertman and Kelly Taylor were a respectable 4th. Huge thanks to the many Martinborough members providing food, raffles and smiles.

The clubhouse continues to evolve, particularly on the landscaping front. With thanks to a number of our members from Greytown we are currently building our version of St Andrews’ famous Swilcan Bridge on the 11th hole. (Egad! Ed.)

Inside the clubhouse there are exciting things happening in the kitchen. Scott Emerson has joined Tennessee to provide expanded food offerings both on the menu and opening times – keep watching our Facebook page.

New food offerings include sticky pork ribs, Bao buns and fish bites – yummy.

Note: Swilcan is a small stone bridge on St Andrews Links golf course, Scotland. The bridge spans the Swilcan Burn between the first and 18th fairways on the Old Course.
