Thank you for your support – we couldn’t have done it without you.
It has been an honour and a privilege representing our community, Martinborough Community Board’s four members report. We would like to thank everyone who has engaged with us, offering feedback and suggestions and for taking time to be involved
in consultations.
We have had some highs and some lows as we have navigated through some difficult topics.
While progress is sometimes slow when dealing with Council, the ongoing feedback and support from the community is very heartening and rewarding. The community in Martinborough is very honest and forthright, their motives are always very genuine
A great deal of our time has been dedicated to honouring the legacy of George Pain, ensuring his generous gift is treated with the respect it deserves. We addressed the high administration costs and
under our new CEO $300,000 was paid back to the Trust and costs have been adjusted to a far more reasonable level.
Recently announced is news the Council is withdrawing its request to redesignate the Pain Farm land for waste-water dispersal. This is great news, ensuring the future of The Estate and could not have been achieved without the community stepping up and having their voices heard. The Council was listening, and your determination and support has resulted in this positive outcome.
The next critical stage will be establishing a new long-term management strategy which focuses on what is best for the Estate and removing potential conflict. This would take the form of an independent Trust – we have assurances that work will commence on this at the start of the next triennium.
Despite many frustrations, serving our community has come with great rewards (not of a monetary nature) and we encourage you to consider standing in the coming elections – we need to ensure representations across all sectors of our community.
If you want to find out more please come and talk to us, you can get hold of anyone of us via SWDC.
