Greytown is branding it a “Christmas Carnival” of month-long events – with immersive light experiences, roving performers, live music, snow, mulled wine and more. And inviting their neighbours to share.
It kicks off with “The Big Switch (On)” on Friday 27 June. Thanks to Greytown Lands Trust, Main Street will close for a night of live music, roving performers, snow, mulled wine, and magical lighting being switched on for the first time.
Kids can join the launch fun by decorating/colouring the festival mascot Hari the pup! Then bring it along to hang on the Community Tree on opening night.
Programme highlights:
Illumination Night Walk: wander through the grounds of Cobblestones Museum after dark, transformed into a lightscape of sculptures and interactive displays ( 2 – 7 July)
Carousel Family Fun Zone: brought to life by Holmes Construction, this vintage carousel will delight kids and nostalgic adults alike (2 – 7 July)
Kids Circus School: let the kids take centre stage with juggling, tumbling and circus tricks taught by pros during the school holidays (30 June – 4 July)
Molewood Orchard Festival Bonfire Inferno: one epic fire. One magical night. Witness the region’s biggest-ever bonfire light up the night sky, in support of Greytown Fire Brigade (12 July)
Mid-Winter Christmas House Tour: take a peek inside some of Greytown’s most beautifully styled homes, in support of Hospice Wairarapa. (Thanks to Dave and Jennah from Property Brokers, 18 July)
Light Up Tractor Parade: supported by One NZ, this is a drive-through of glowing tractors, trucks and vintage vehicles lighting the night (19 July)
Carnival Parade & Fireworks: sponsored by South Wairarapa District Council, ends the festival with a bang – a vibrant street parade followed by a fireworks display (26 July).
Throughout July, Greytown promises to sparkle with festive shopfronts, light projections, while providing warming winter drinks and carnival cheer. Expect snow, with magical flurries throughout the month – thanks to FreshChoice Greytown.
“Of course the snow is coming back, it’s just so popular with everyone. It adds that extra bit of magic to Main Street and makes Greytown feel like a true winter wonderland,” said Adam Blackwell, of Country Village Heaven Trust.
