Little Miracles Trust’s ‘amazing’ fundraiser

May 2025

A group of 84 quizzers, all intent on showing their trivia knowledge while raising much-needed funds, has helped put more than $6,000 into The Little Miracles Trust to aid premature and tiny babies and their whanau.

Little Miracles Trust looks after parents and their babies who are born too soon. These tiny babies are given great care and the chance to grow up to have normal lives while their parents are given all the support they need through the unexpected and difficult time.

Sarah and Samantha of the Little Miracles Trust drove from Wellington for the event and Sarah briefly spoke about the work they do. Score-keeper Simon Cartwright was singled out for his excellent job of keeping tallies and displaying the results on the Golf Club’s new TV as the evening went along.

One fund-raising twist saw people enthusiastically buying answers they didn’t know for $2 each –  one allowed per round per team, with Meg Barham collecting the cash to add to the final tally.

The quiz ended with a tie-breaker between two tables. Both teams then had the correct answer to the question: “how many toilets are there in the White House?” : 35. Instead of going to another question they opted to share the prize – eight bottles of wine.

When takings were added up, the event raised $6,142.90! “Amazing,” said organisers.

The organisers would like to thank all the people who kindly donated and those who generously bought auction items. Anyone who would like to help by donating or by knitting tiny wool garments can find information and patterns on the website:  info@littlemiraclestrust.org.nz
