A new venue in town…. The new golf clubhouse is in full swing (pun definitely intended!). Although there is still some work to do on landscaping and the car parking areas, the clubhouse, bar and kitchen are a great hit with members and visitors alike.
Well known to locals, chef Tennessee Liumaihetau has hit the ground running with delicious food that is drawing in visitors.
Tennessee has an impressive background that has included time at Logan Brown, Union Square and Karahui. His reliably wide smile lights up a room, and his food is lighting up the club.
The new snack/light meals menu is getting rave reviews as is the serene vista from either the outdoor area or inside – watching the golf provides unexpected entertainment! Meals are available from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wed-Sun and everyone is welcome: just sign in if you are not with a member. It’s hard to pick the favourites, currently it would be the toasted sandwich, the pork belly bites and the cheeseburger featuring a Scotty’s patty.
A new feature behind the bar is an aerial photo from around 1925 which shows the golf course in relation to the town. It’s a fascinating look back at where the club and the town has come from to what it is now. Anyone got a drone with camera? It would be great to get the same photo done now to compare.
On the golfing front, the men’s and women’s interclub competitions are well under way playing teams right around the region. Currently the men are lying 3rd in Divisions 2 and 9 and 5th in Division 12. The ladies are leading the Riverside Cup, 2nd in the Tilson Salver, 3rd in Lansdowne Trophy and Silver pennants and the Combo team are lying 13th but with plenty of games to go. Playing for the club is a big commitment so a huge thanks to everyone who represents Martinborough.
Plans are currently underway for the official opening of the clubhouse on Sunday 30th March. “It is important we recognise this milestone in the Club’s history and the start of a new era” said Club Captain Andy Morison. “Although the event will be members and invited guests only we hope locals take the opportunity to come for a visit to see what we have now”.
