As a result of a recent Community Board session in Pirinoa the board was able to help facilitate a meeting at Ngawi on the future of the Cape Palliser Road and how it will be funded. This road is of huge significance to everyone in the Wairarapa. As a Special Purpose Road it had qualified for higher funding from Waka Kotahi but unfortunately this may no longer be the case. If you would like to find more about this and offer support, contact capepalliserresidents@gmail.com
Over the last few months the Community Board has had the privilege of meeting some amazing, passionate Martinborough residents. There are volunteers working in so many areas to support the community, such as a new Social Seniors group held at Wharekaka. There is also the Community Patrol team, always looking for more members. We have walking groups, community garden initiatives, sports and fitness groups – there are so many ways to get involved. If you have an idea for something, you would like to get started or are simply looking for what is available just reach out – we may
be able to help. A connected community is a more resilient community.
Later this year the Board will be hosting an Emergency Response Expo, like the one held recently in Greytown. It is important we keep thinking about how we would cope in an emergency should it arise; the Expo will be an opportunity to meet with people from across the spectrum of emergency management services. If you would like to be involved, please let us know.
Be Prepared tip for June: Do you have a torch on hand and spare batteries in case of a power cut? If you add candles and matches to your emergency kit, please remember to store them safely.
This month there are two opportunities to meet with members of your Community Board: Saturday Session – Waihinga Centre 10 June 10:00 a.m. – Noon; Tuesday Evening Session – Circus Cinema 29 June 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (Thanks Tim)
These sessions are invaluable for the board to know what is important to you, as well as an opportunity to just come along and meet us.
