April is apple harvest, with Greytown’s Molewood Orchard staging a second pick-your-own harvest festival at Easter, after a first event in 2023.
The Festival in the orchard’s picnic area, Molewood Meadows, includes a small stage for live music and offers a diverse range of stalls from pottery to plants to fine jewellery, original artworks, lavender products, dog treats – even glitter tattoos!
Activities on site include pick-your-own apples for $3 kg, food trucks, 40 local stalls from throughout the Wairarapa region, apple baking, cider and fruit wine samples, carriage rides, kids games, face-painting, puppy cuddles and even the opportunity to see a Wellington-Wairarapa Gliding Club glider up close.
Orchard owners, the Cooke family, say the festival is a real Wairarapa event, attracting stalls, entertainers and food trucks from throughout the region. Martinborough will be well-represented at the festival by Martinborough Coffee, an artisan coffee company.
Entry to Molewood Orchard in Mole Street, Greytown, is free. Access is also available from the so-called “secret” door in the shelterbelt at the end of Farley Avenue.
