Another AED adds to lifesaving list

By Martinborough Community Board May 2025

Lisa Cornelissen, Community Board member Angela Brown, Wellington Free's Cheryl Watson with new AED.

Another AED (Automatic External Defibrillator, aka heart starter) has popped up at Considine Park. Martinborough Community Board has extended a “BIG thank you” to Cheryl and the team at Wellington Free Ambulance, while funding came from the SWDC Community Wellbeing Fund.

A small funding shortfall was made up by Lisa at Top 10 Holiday Park. Installation was a team effort – thanks P & K and Dean Di Bona.

This latest device will service the Pool, the Campground, playing field and the Pump Track.

A Heartbeat Workshop which covers CPR (resuscitation) and how to operate a Defibrillator is set for Friday 27 June. The session will be run by Wellington Free Ambulance and attendance is free thanks to the generous support of the Morrisons Foundation.

A thank you to everyone who came to meet Board members at the Community Easter Market.  This was an opportunity to raise awareness of the location and role of our Community Emergency Hub, the Town Hall.  It’s a place for the community to gather in an emergency to offer and receive help, and operated by the Community for the Community. A Pain Estate Grant Funding round is scheduled to take place mid-year – this fund has very specific criteria, set out on the SWDC website. If you think you have a suitable project please apply once the release dates have been announced.

If anyone is thinking of standing for the Community Board at the next local body elections, have a chat with any of the Board’s members.  It is a great way to give back to your community and meet lots of amazing locals.
