Starlight Performing Arts has had a fantastic first year, with over 60 students taking after school drama classes in Martinborough and Greytown.
Next year will be even bigger as directors introduce both children and adult singing classes.
“Performing arts brings so many positive things, including teamwork, fun and creativity, as well as building friendships and most importantly – confidence,” said show director Jody McCartney.
After realising how much talent and enthusiasm there is in Martinborough, Jody put together a proposal for a performance to showcase the talents of the children in the South Wairarapa and to create a fun and entertaining show for the community
to enjoy.
Creative Communities got on board with some funding and the show ‘Tales of Monsters, Dragons & Other Wild Things’ came alive.
“This show is a spooky extravaganza with some fantastic song and dance numbers,” said Jody. “The cast of 40 is made up of 5-15 year olds, who have been working very hard throughout the rehearsal process.
“The production is supported by a crew of local theatre and arts experts who we’re so lucky to have on board,” she added. “The Martinborough Community Market have also been very generous with fundraising and support with the rehearsal workshops.”
