Fun, laughter, bargains at First Church affair

Oct 2024

First Church’s Spring Fling & CookBook Launch, held at Waihinga Centre Martinborough on Friday 6 September proved to be a highly successful night, with lots of fun, laughter and bargains for our 150 guests.

The level and quality of clothing was top notch, high end, and we are very grateful to everyone who brought us their beautiful garments to model and sell. The hall looked amazing decorated in the colours of Spring.

The models strutted their garments, rocked hats, shoes and bags in style in a Spring-themed Fashion Show. They came out dressed in style for the Races, A day in the Vineyards, A Night on the Town, A Garden Tour, Tulip Festival and a Wairarapa Wedding. A big thanks to Tania Williamson, her team and models.

Auctioneer, Graham Howie, tempted punters into buying vouchers which were in line with the themed runways. We are so grateful to our Sponsors who donated vouchers for the auction.

Our two guest speakers were amazing. Rosemary Ward spoke on the background of the Martinborough Cookbook and how it was a wonderful vision to reprint the Book for future generations to enjoy.

Amanda from Evie and May Shoes Kuripuni held the audience with her journey, and how she become owner of her Shoe Store.

Local icons Pip and Mel Maynard then entertained us with their beautiful singing voices.

Organiser, Sherryl Howie and her team of First Church helpers wish to thank sincerely those who helped with months of planning, sorting and preparations of clothes, those who helped to transport racks of clothes to and from the Town Hall, as well as the helpers and sponsors on the night.

Thank you so much. Without everyone’s input and assistance this Show could not have been possible.

At the point of writing the money raised has far exceeded last year’s effort and will set an incentive for next year’s fundraising event.

Anyone wishing to purchase our 6th Edition Martinborough Cook book please contact Sherryl Howie 027 2405110 or Margaret Griffiths 027 2459663. Copies priced at $35.00 each.
