Raising Parkinson’s Awareness

Sept 2024

A Parkinson’s diagnosis is a life-altering event but not a life-threatening one.

It is a chronic and progressive condition with no known cure at present – although research is moving in leaps and bounds.

Parkinson’s is not an easy condition to understand as not everyone has the same symptoms, and not everyone deals with this diagnosis in the same way. Some people are naturally positive and take each day as it comes, while others struggle with the ins and outs of it all.

And, for some reason, ‘Murphy’ has great delight in giving us more than one challenge at a time.

This is why many organisations, such as Parkinson’s, exist – to provide that extra support when it is needed. Whether you need support now or later on as your journey progresses, we are here in the Wairarapa.

During September and October Parkinson’s Wairarapa will have a stall at the following events:

  • Wairarapa Disability Expo at the Carterton Event Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday 28 September;
  • Aging with Attitude Expo at the Masterton War Memorial Stadium from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday 1 October;
  • We will probably pop up at a couple of Carterton Sunday markets during October;
  • We will be offering refreshments at our pop-up café at the Longbush Cottage Tulip Festival on Saturday 5 – Sunday 6 October from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days.

At all these events we will have information on activities and the support we provide to the Wairarapa. We will also be selling wooden tulips and wooden vases to fundraise for these activities.
