A letter of thanks. Martinborough community board would like to once again thank everyone who attended the public information session and have offered on going support to ensure the future of the Pain Estate. As a result of this support, we have now made a small but significant step in the right direction.
You may have already seen in the press that an amount of $300k was paid back into the Pain Estate bank account following an investigation authorised by the CE. This money related to amounts overcharged to the Estate during the period 2006 – 07 through to provisional accounts for 2023-24
A copy of the report from the CE detailing this is attached – it was presented at the Community Board meeting held on 11th July – a recording is available on the council’s Youtube channel.
Whilst this is indeed a very positive step to improving the management of the Estate there is still work to be done to address the bigger issues of concern to our community – one of which questions the Council’s ability to act as Trustee.
This topic is mentioned in the SWDC Chief Executive’s report under Pain Farm legal issues, work by the council appointed Trust lawyers remains ongoing.
We are anticipating information to be made available at the next Strategy Working Committee on the 31 July.
The issue of the redesignation of the land for the purpose of discharging treated wastewater remains firmly on our agenda; it is frustrating that it is taking such a long time to get answers. We remain committed to acting on behalf of the community to uphold the intentions of George Pain’s Will.
Whilst the upcoming Representation Review puts the continued existence of community boards in question, be assured this will not impact our fight to ensure the future good governance of the Pain Estate.
