First Church fashion fandango wins

Sept 2023

We report with pride that Martinborough’s annual First Church Fashion Show fund-raiser, titled “Spring Fling,” has been a huge success.

The event was a fabulous fashion fandango, headlining a wide range of pre-loved, high-end clothing, jewellery, hats and shoes – not to mention a clutch of Gucci bags.

This time the event was held in the Waihinga Centre which comfortably accommodated a record 126 attendees from the wider Wairarapa and Wellington areas.

The fund-raiser was not just a fashion parade but a “Fashion Show” that included scrumptious finger food delivered throughout the evening along with local entertainment, an informative demonstration and address by a local guest speaker, interspersed with the Mystery Auctioning of quality sponsored gifts, culminating in all attendees being invited to peruse and purchase from the many well-presented racks of stunning garments and accompanying accessories.

Throughout the evening a series of Runway segments were held where handpicked clothing combinations were superbly modelled by a number of brave local personalities. They tantalized the guests with their enthusiasm and skilful modelling, showcasing a variety of clothing ensembles like professionals, and the audience responded to each with much appreciation and applause.

Sherryl Howie led a key team of First Church volunteers who for many weeks had fun preparing the generously gifted garments in readiness for display and ultimately for sale. The organising team are grateful for the generosity of a number of local businesses and clubs who supported them by lending items and important pieces of equipment that contributed to making the night a resounding success and one to be remembered.

At the point of writing the money raised through this event has well exceeded last year’s effort and will set a new objective and incentive for next year’s fund-raising event.

All feedback has been very complimentary of the entire event, both for its content and its organisation.

Book Sales continue to be available from First Church Hall in Weld Street, Martinborough on the last Saturday in each month from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. There is always something for everyone and at $2 for most books you can’t go wrong.

First Church will be hosting Dr Joan Taylor on Labour weekend Sunday, 22 October at 12:45 p.m. At a light lunch for our church family, Joan is going to talk about her recent book in collaboration with Dr Helen Bond, titled ‘Women Remembered – Jesus’ Female Disciples.’ All welcome.
