We had a very happy Christmas lunch at the York Bistro, Parehua on the 11th December at midday. We had the entire dining room at the front of the building to ourselves. It is a light airy space with lots of room to move around and talk to one another.
President Philippa Pointon talked with sadness about the two members who had died in the year, Bruce Hancox and Ted Wilde and their contributions over the years. She was also very pleased that we had survived the year so well, with the departure of Lawrence and Shelley Goldsmith to Christchurch. They had been so generous after lockdown, allowing us to use their property, kitchen, cooking and organisational skills, for meeting and tastings.
The starter drink was Luna rose. The lunch consisted of an anti-pasta platter to start. The mains to share were roast beef, flounder and roasted cauliflower with sides of heirloom tomato salad, shoestring duck fat fries and asparagus. The dessert was a lovely selection of three Petit Fours.
We will take a break for January, and the February meeting will be a garden party.
