News from First Church

By Pam Colenso Feb 2023

Lent: The period of Lent starts on Wednesday 22nd February and runs for 40 days until Thursday 6th April. This is an important time in the church calendar leading up to the death of Jesus. There are a number of readings to follow in the Book of Matthew – which we will contemplate each Sunday over this period. Our services are at 10am every Sunday.

Many people recognise Lent as a time to give up something, some people fasting on a specific day, others giving up sweets, alcohol, smoking or cakes and biscuits. This is a personal time for reflection and which ever way you spend this time ensure that you achieve the goal you have set yourself.

Martinborough Fair: This years Rotary Fairs will be Saturday 4th Feb and then again on Saturday 4th March. First Church will have our usual stall on the Square facing Cambridge Road (next to the pedestrian crossing). We will be selling homemade baking, pies, jams, marmalade, pickles, sauces, lemonade, produce including lemons, nuts, etc. It will be great to see you all on the day.

Books and Brickabrac sale: First Church hall in Weld Street, will be open on Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th & Monday 6th February 1.30pm till 5pm each of the days. There will be masses of books for both adults and children plus a large amount of treasure trove goods. Keep an eye open for the green Market sign on the corner of Jellicoe & Weld Streets.

Have a great month and if you are travelling – keep safe.
