Maree’s Musings

By Maree Roy Feb 2023

2022 from A to Z: PART ONE.

2023 started fairly relaxed for me, which gave me time to muse on last year. 365 days: a lot happened, so the idea of using the alphabet’s 26 letters, more or less, seemed to be a good scheme. Here’s Part One.

A .. for Apple, like in early school days. The birds and I share one daily; theirs speared on a spike for convenience. Next door’s cat sits under the hedge, but to no Avail. Aims and Aspirations Appeared at New Year. Admit it, we All do it. I Ate About 350 Avocadoes. And A for Apps – see later in ‘G’.

B is for Bad, as in ‘My Bad’. It takes humility to admit a mistake and responsibility for an action, a lesson I learned last year. Better: B for Bliss .. standing under a hot shower, a delicious Brandy cocktail rustled up by my Beautiful grand-daughter at Xmas. Books, of course.

C. Aahhh! Covid. No Comment. Chances to Celebrate, Concerts, and Chocolate were much better. 2022 included all four, more or less.

C is for Cat, my Constant Companion. He even forgave me for (accidentally – honest!) locking him in the kitchen Cupboard. He’d been there for a Considerable time before I Cottoned onto what was Causing the Commotion and let him out. [For the smart readers, Cross-reference to O for Oil in Part Two.]

D, also in the kitchen, is for Doing Dishes. A Daily Duty, as I Don’t have a Dishwasher. Doing the maths [a favourite Diversion, as you know]: 365 Days x 50 years; around 18250 times. Depressing enough to give one the Daunts. The word’s use has skyrocketed recently, I Discovered. Doubtless a sign of the times.

E is for Eyes. I’ve had four, as the saying goes, for a long time. Wearing glasses is fine, but more recently I’ve had to Endure injections into the back of one of them – my eyes, that is. Six last year. It gets Easier Eventually, but not less Expensive. Enough about that …

F for Facebook. How did we ever survive without it? For me, keeps Friendships alive.

G is for the ‘Google Maps Timeline’ App on my phone. It reveals what I’ve been up to, where, and how far I’ve travelled. How Good is that? I visited only one country, but seven cities (one new), and 93 places – some many times, but 44 I’d never been to before. 6,500 km, Give or take. That’s 16% around the world. Golly.

G for my Guitar too. I’m never Going to be Great, but no matter. And for the Gym. Workouts Gave me time to do some word Groups. Grin, Grimace, Grunt, Groan, Grouch, Giggle. And Grit [teeth, that is]. Good fun!

H … Hangover. Only one. TBH(onest) I Have Had Happier days. Hot Water. I had a Cylinder malfunction some months back, which was Horrible. Thank goodness for a Helpful Handyman, who was Happy to fix it. In Hindsight … Hilarious.

I dearly hope you’ve enjoyed reading this. It’s good to be back, but now I’ve reached my word limit. Part TWO Is In progress, It will be with you in the next Issue.
