PUSSY CAT, PUSSY CAT, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

By Shelley Siemonek Dec 2022

“Rouge,” the Salon cat has lived at D ‘Vine Hair and Beauty, for 15 years with his brother “Wolvie”. Originally they were found as stray kittens in the alleyway. “Rouge” is often known as the Bach cat as he is a frequent visitor there, lunching with numerous customers. Perfecting the art of a starving stray cat, he sprawls out on the corner picnic table awaiting his next victim.

Unfortunately, two people fell for this big time a couple of Sundays ago. With all the nearby shops closed in the late afternoon “Rouge” must have lost track of time and snoozed there. Awoken by concerned Wellingtonians, he then did his I’m starving meow. This was despite his being able to enter the salon through the cat door, where there was a selection of cat food waiting for him. The couple asked a staff member at Pain and Kershaw if they knew who the cat belonged to, but the staff member knew nothing about the salon cat. Thinking he was a stray the couple took it upon themselves to rescue this poor cat. They took him to the Vets in Upper Hutt for a check up on the way back to their lovely city view apartment in Brooklyn!!!

By Tuesday I was starting to get concerned as he hadn’t been seen for a day or two. Numerous posts were put on social media and nearby businesses owners asked. On Day 5, I received a message from the vet in Upper Hutt. They had seen the Facebook post and were able to tell us where he went. With the connection made “Rouge’s” uber was ordered and he returned to Martinborough. His city life is now over. He was allowed to stay for one more night’s sleepover in his new cat bed overlooking the city! Rouge arrived home to a relieved salon clientele and big brother. Needless to say, he has a new collar or 3 and will be spending more of his last years inside.
