At the end of October, 18 volunteers offered to help with the collection for Breast Cancer’s Pink Ribbon Day. Jan Barret mentioned that she had been online looking to see when the collection was to take place and discovered there was no collection organised for Martinborough. “I called the Breast Cancer organisers and found myself volunteering to be the Area Coordinator for Martinborough. It wasn’t a difficult task and with Kathryn Keogh’s help we arranged for volunteers to take part. Each volunteer was assigned a buddy and was assigned to a 2-hour shift.
P and K, Mitre 10 and Kitchener’s all offered sites for the girls to stand. We were so grateful for their assistance, said Jan Barret. Coffees definitely eased the 2-hour shifts and were so appreciated. Quite a few of the volunteers had brought their dogs for babysitting. They proved to be a star attraction with people coming up to pat the dogs and then making contributions.
We raised $2,500 which will be used to contribute to further breast cancer research. A very special thank you to everyone who took part.
