Two important events coming up for South Wairarapa Rotary and the community

Oct 2022

South Wairarapa Rotary are very busy with two events scheduled over the next two months. In October the Martinborough Charity Fun Ride will take place with the annual bike ride scheduled for Sunday 30 October. Four weeks later the Martinborough Fair takes place on Saturday 26 November. This is the first of three Fairs to be held, with two further Fairs to take place, as usual, on the first weekend in February and in March.

The proceeds from the Martinborough Charity Fun Ride this year will go to the Wellington Children’s Hospital, which were to receive the money last year until the event had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

Registration has opened and already many cyclists have signed up. Cycle Science in conjunction with Rotary are the principal sponsors of the event, however, many local businesses have generously given prizes.

As the title suggests it is a fun day for riders, supporters and spectators, so mark your calendar and come along to enjoy the event.

Our second important event is the November Martinborough Fair. Currently this is a one-off pre-Christmas Fair, which is a result of only being able to run one Martinborough Fair earlier this year in April.

As always, the money collected from the Fair is distributed to the South Wairarapa community throughout the ensuing year. Only having one Fair has meant that the Committees have only had half the amount of money to distribute and some of our usual community activities have had to be curtailed. The proceeds from the November Fair will provide the additional funds required for distribution into the South Wairarapa Community.

The November Fair provides a good opportunity to purchase unique Christmas gifts not always available in shops. Again, mark your calendars and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere that these very popular fairs provide.

In addition to running these two events, in late August Rotarians turned out to pick Daffodils for the Cancer Society. The Daffodils are picked from a fellow Rotarian’s farm in Pirinoa. In all 18,000 blooms were picked and supplied to the local branch of the Cancer Society in Masterton.

As always, we love to welcome new members to our South Wairarapa Rotary Club. We meet each Wednesday at 6.00pm, so if you or someone you know would like to join Rotary please give Glenn Todd our Club Committee Director a call on 027 4583789.

If your organisation would like to be considered for financial support, you can find an application form on our website: swrotary.co.nz
