Third time lucky – Kahutara Hall Centenary

Oct 2022

With Covid inflicting restrictions, Kahutara Hall is finally having its centenary on the weekend of 11/12th November 2022. We would love to have current and past residents celebrating this event. Once again our specialised committee is organising festivities.

On Friday the 11th from 2-4pm, there will be a “high tea” in the hall. The local mayor will be welcoming guests, with the Featherston Gentlemen Singers, and delicious food served by the Kahutara Parent and Community group. Tickets for this event are $30. Please contact: kahutaraparentandcitizens1@gmail.com or 027 659 3828

On Saturday the 12th, from 7pm, there will be a Ball, of which attendees are encouraged to dress in 1920’s attire. We’re excited to have The Shenanigans performing, with a catered supper provided. Tickets for this event are $75. Please contact: kahutara100@gmail.com or 021 02332024.

Tickets for these events are on sale now. Purchase tickets sooner rather than later as numbers are limited. We are also producing a book titled “Kahutara Hall Celebrates 101 Years”. The book covers the inception of the hall, from WW1 days until the present day, collaborated by the Kahutara community.

Previous and current residents have shared their stories, which are woven through the history of the hall. It shows how the community has worked together to achieve a wonderful asset from the pioneer days, now and for the future. Their stories reveal extraordinary generosity of time and resources, commitment and determination. They are personal, sometimes very funny, poignant and insightful. This book demonstrates so well, the New Zealand ethic of using ‘number eight wire’.

The book will be available for sale at both the events. Price per book will be $20. For other enquiries, please contact: Viv Green email: roto.farm@xtra.co.nz The hall is still being used for community events, playgroup, 21st, weddings, and many other group meetings/celebrations. For enquiries please phone 021 214 6627 or 021 176 5608.
