Martinborough Wine and Food September function

Oct 2022

We had a good turnout, when we went for dinner at the “Offering” in Greytown. The meal seemed to be enjoyed by everyone and as the cellarmaster said “Good food, good value, good ambience and good company.”

There was a choice of three mains, roast chicken, lamb shanks or vegetarian. The chicken was beautifully cooked, tender and moist with good flavour. The lamb shanks were huge the largest I had ever seen (a new breed perhaps?) and again thoroughly enjoyed by those that had them. The vegetarian option was grilled eggplant and zucchini with rocket and fetta on a quinoa chickpea and fetta cake with balsamic dressing and house made relish. It looked delicious.

These were accompanied by beautifully prepared vegetables. There was some lovely bright green just crisp broccolini, with baby roasted carrots and tiny potatoes roasted in oil. For pudding there were delightful individual apple pies with cream, followed by cheese grapes and biscuits.

The outstanding feature of this meal was the excellent cooking throughout, it was hard to fault and left you with a warm pleasant feeling of contentment. The room with its strings of white lights, gave it a mid-winter or Christmas feel.

The only thing I could say was that a larger or more diverse wine list would have been an additive feature. On the other hand, the extensive range of Parrot Dog beers made it interesting.

This was a treat we nearly missed, due to Covid working its way through the staff at the Offering. So, thanks to Bevan and Phillipa for pulling it all together.
