Hi, I’m Jenna Matchett and I’m running for council to help build a more resilient and cohesive district!
I’m dedicated, loyal, hardworking, not afraid of speaking up and I’m quite serious by nature. I studied architecture at Victoria university, have two daughters attending Martinborough school, a passion for anything outdoors and am a committed firefighter at the Martinborough brigade. A current goal of mine is to walk the Te Araroa trail with my family, leaving in November and walking roughly 3000km from Cape Reinga to Bluff, taking 3 months.
Through the work I do with the foodbanks, having been exposed to a wide range of life experiences and being active in local politics I have a realistic approach to understanding the challenges faced and the areas we can strengthen. I can identify with both rural and urban opinions and care about issues concerning people across all demographics and diversities. In my opinion the council needs to regain the trust from voters through being honest, openminded and by appreciating the knowledge that our residents can contribute to issues we face.
Having a young family, I am keen to look towards the future. We need to ensure we listen to the lessons of the past, learn from them, and have an open approach to our prioritising and problem solving. Overall, I am a strong believer in leaving things better than you found them and that there is little benefit to mincing words or functioning in a grey area, we need to be decisive and forward thinking.
I love this community; the opportunities it affords our residents and visitors and believe the unique relationship that exists between town and country is worth nurturing. I strongly encourage people to get out and vote in these local body elections, so your voices are heard.
