The Bookseller at the End of the World

July 2022

Featherston Booktown is hosting author and bookseller Ruth Shaw at the Greytown Library on Tuesday 12 July at 6:00 PM as part of the Greytown Festival Of Christmas.

Author and bookseller Ruth Shaw will be chatting with Susan Jane Ryan, owner of indie Featherston bookshop Mr Feather’s Den, about her new memoir, The Bookseller at the End of the World.

Ruth Shaw runs two tiny (wee) bookshops in Manapouri in Fiordland, just about as far south as you can get. Her delightful, funny and heart-breaking memoir spans years and miles, with tales about sailing through the Pacific (she was held up by actual pirates), being in love, working on Fiordland yachts with her husband, Lance, and getting involved in environmental campaigns.

Publishers Allen & Unwin say Shaw’s book, “… will make you weep and make you laugh and make you want to read more books – and make you want to visit Ruth and her two wee bookshops.”

“Featherston Booktown is a literary development organisation which focuses on inspiring Wairarapa readers and developing Wairarapa writers. The organisers are committed to bringing literary events to Wairarapa towns throughout the year, so they jumped at the chance to introduce Shaw and her best-selling book to Wairarapa readers. Earlier their parallel Young Readers Programme (26 events) was held throughout Wairarapa schools.

Tickets to The Bookseller at the End of the World are $20 plus booking fees at www.eventfinda.co.nz/2022/featherston-booktown-the-bookseller-at-the-end-of-the-world/greytown.
