Martinborough Lions

By Margaret Bush Past President July 2022

Terry, Margaret and Ray with the New Life Members Board.

Our month of June has been a busy time with some members away with Covid, which is still hanging around in our District. Our meeting on the 8th June had 21 members and 2 Guests attended.

This was a meeting of surprises; it was a pleasure to call upon our oldest member Ray Lind, with the cutting of his 94th Birthday Cake. Ray has been a member of Martinborough Lions for over 56 Years, and still a very active member in the club, always willing to help out where he can. Congratulations Ray.

It was a great Honour for me to call upon Ray, our Life member, to unveil the new Life Members Board for the Club,. Also a pleasure to nominate Terry Blacktop to have his name added to the Board as a Life Member for his many years of service to the Club, as Treasurer. Congratulations Terry.

Our Guest Speaker on the night was David Hawkins, from Pasadena California. David gave us an interesting talk about his career, Developing Digital Electronics for imaging using Radio Waves. David’s presentation started with photos and details of his work at Nasa’a Jet propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena California.

David works in the Radar Science and Engineering Section  as the  Groups Systems Supervisor, and he showed details of the missions his digital groups are working on. David presented Sonar images captured using the technique developed during his  Doctoral Work. He also presented  images of his life in California showing the beautiful scenery of the high Sierra Mountains and Yosemite.

June the 22nd was the Clubs Changeover of Officers Night, this was held at Parehua with a dinner;. The Staff did us proud, Induction was officiated by Gary Pickering from Masterton, Barbara Gavan has taken the new Roll as President from Margaret Bush who becomes Past President, Vice President is Belinda Jorgenson, Stuart McGigor Stays as Club Secretary,  and Terry Blacktop stays as Treasurer,
