FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

July 2022

Well winter arrived, the Brigade recently attended an electrical fire that we were able to quickly extinguish saving the property, with assistance from our adjoining Featherston, Greytown and Carterton Brigades.

As winter bites the risk of fire increases, if you smell smoke or your smoke alarms sound, evacuate and call 111 Immediately, we are happy to come anytime. Please be careful of disposing of ashes from your fire, always put the in a metal container placed on concrete or grass away from buildings or firewood piles to cool for a couple of days.

We continue our very steady Medical Responses, and our team of First Responders are here to help, always call Ambulance in the first instance, and we are happy for you to suggest the First Response Unit be sent as well anywhere in the South Wairarapa.

There have been, as you will have seen in the News services, multiple overdoses linked to Fentanyl, (information here – Fentanyl-type substance in white powder causes multiple hospitalisations in Wairarapa region :: High Alert)

If you or someone you know consumes a white powder and start to lose consciousness or breathe slowly, call 111 immediately. Be honest about your drug use, you won’t get in trouble and it could save your life.

We have had a good response from interested people but as usual if you are interested in becoming a Firefighter or a dedicated Medical Responder (you can be both if you want !) please contact our Chief Jake Hawkins directly by emailing – Jacob.hawkins@fireandemergency.nz. or pop on down and have a chat on Tuesday Training nights to meet us.

We are particularly looking for daytime/weekday Firefighters and Medical Responders, even if you can do it just while the kids are at school, and you don’t have to be available all the time, you will be fully equipped, trained and get to work in a fantastic team..
