Martinborough School has introduced a BYO (bring your own) device scheme to support online learning in the classroom. The School Board has been supporting online learning through digital technology by leasing class sets of chromebook laptop devices for the past seven years. “At this point we needed the support of parents and families to come to the party and bring their own devices to support online learning”.
The School has partnered with local IT company SchooledupIT in Greytown to supply the chromebook devices with compatibility to the school network. Families can purchase the device outright or pay the chromebook off over one to three years. “We were also approached by local people and businesses who wanted to contribute and this venture ended up raising $15,000, including a significant donation of $5,000 from the Martinborough Lions Club”.
The combination of this generous donation to ensure devices are available for children to learn from home when learning goes online due to COVID lockdowns, and also means learning can happen ‘anywhere. anytime’, bring Martinborough School in line with digital learning and technology in 2022.
We know how important it is for children to have their own device to support learning.
“There has been a fantastic amount of local support to provide our students with the tools they need to help learning become more accessible and relevant. As a School we want to thank everyone who has contributed to making this possible”
The advantages of this community contribution so that children have their own device will be seen in years to come when our children take on the jobs of the future.
