Well February has raced past and once again we are facing COVID in a slightly different manner with the Government trying to manage cases in the community. We ask that if our Medical First Responders arrive at your house or business, that you are wearing a appropriate mask and answer any questions around symptoms or tests honestly, so we can take appropriate precautions ensuring our Responders are best protected and we can continue to support the Community.
Medical First Response is proving hugely beneficial to both our community with faster responses, effective patient care, and our Ambulance service partner Wellington Free Ambulance, with several instances of the Medical Response team being able to reduce demand on their services, this was especially meaningful during the recent flooding which made access to the district difficult.
Fortunately the flooding only provided a couple of calls for assistance by the brigade and we were please to be able to assist in difficult circumstances.
A number of people have indicated their desire to become Medical First Responders, and we will be contacting you shortly with further information, and hope as we continue to move through Covid levels to have an open day to show off our Firefighting and Medical skills so you can learn more.
Congratulations to new Firefighter Jenna Matchett on completing her Recruits Course, she said she loved the live fire exercises where she applied her skills in a real fire scenario. Well done Jenna.
We continue to be available to assist our community, for Medical emergencies please continue to call Ambulance on 111 and for all other incidents ask for Fire.
If you are interested in becoming a Firefighter like Jenna or are interested in being a Medical Responder (you can be both if you want !) please contact our Chief Jake Hawkins directly by emailing – Jacob.hawkins@fireandemergency.nz
