24th Feb Martinborough Community Board

25th Feb Wellington Regional Waste Forum

Hinekura Road:

Just before Christmas residents along Hinekura Road had another set back as following a large rain event the road subsided again and also created some movement raising the road a little bit further on.

At this busy time of the year this was a major blow to the residents along this road. Council staff and Fulton Hogan and WSP employees worked tirelessly to make the road accessible in time for Christmas. The work required the stripping of the existing road surface, reforming the road, filling this and then replacing the material that has been removed. We are very pleased that this was done in time for Christmas and the road able to be used by all vehicles.

Going forward from here, the next stage has started: major work is removing existing trees to reduce the weight on the landslide, also remove trees that are no longer aiding land retention. The existing willow trees will be treated to stop them sprouting and the cleared ground will be replanted.

There will be some culverts replaced and the old dam will finish being drained and the water used to fill the new water storage dam.

There is still a huge amount of work to be undertaken and our thanks go out to the residents for their patience and understanding while this is being carried out.

Vaccinations:

I have just heard today that more than 95% of South Wairarapa residents have been vaccinated; this is a milestone that the DHB have been aiming for.

On that note, on behalf of Pip (Cr Maynard), Jeppy (Cr Jephson) and myself, please stay safe, look out for one another, and have an enjoyable 2022.
