Aberystwyth Lymeryckth

Oct 2020

BY JOHN ANSELL

In response to a challenge to write a limerick that included the word Aberystwyth. (A Welsh town, pronounced ABBA-wrist-with.)

To sell a house in Aberystwyth

I strongly suggest that you list with

Llewellen & Bowen,

But not Barry Owen,

Who Bowen’s wife once had a tryst with.

A stonemason from Aberystwyth,

Whose walls I will always assist with,

Is Dai “Stonewall” Jones:

He knows all about stones

And he’s fun to go out and get schist with.

That cannibal from Aberystwyth

Our Meredith cuddled and kissed with

Asked Dad for her hand

And the wedding sounds grand,

But the breakfast she’d best not persist with.

The blind batsman Flailer McSnicket,

When playing Aberystwyth at cricket,

Was censured today

By the SPCA

For being out Guide Dog’s Leg Before Wicket.

The little lad from Aberystwyth,

If hit, will have means to resist with,

Now he understands

That his pudgy wee hands

Are quite handy for making a fist with.

A lim’rick about Aberystwyth

I may lack the skills to assist with;

In most forms of rhyme

I keep strictly to time

But the limerick I’ve occasionally missed with.
