Books wanted! For the fair in June
We celebrate 145 years in July!

Midwinter Monster Book Fair
Friday, Saturday Sunday 17th, 18th and 19th June Martinborough Town Hall collecting and sorting of books for this popular annual event is now in full swing. The usual format – Friday evening with a guest speaker and tasty supper followed by preferential sales, with ticket $15, and free entry Saturday 10am to 4pm, and Sunday 10am to 2pm.

Our speaker this year is a distinguished academic and local resident Dr Janet Davidson who will speak about her career and also introduce the recently published book about Martinborough in the 1950’s written by her husband Foss Leach. See the interesting article elsewhere in this Star for more about Janet and Foss.

It is not too late to contribute books, jigsaws, D.V.D’s – donations can be left at the Library, P & K, Martinborough Transport and the Pirinoa Store or contact Carol Hawkins 306 9112, Mary Smith 306 9594 or any member of First Church to arrange collection.

Celebrating 145 years
On Sunday 3 July First Church will be marking 145 years of worship, service and witness in Martinborough. Plans are being made for a service expressing thanksgiving, recollections of the past and importantly a strong focus of looking to the future and how this church may continue to play its part in the 21st century all so different from the early days of the building of the first little church building in 1871!

We hope to contact families and people who have had some connection with First Church at any time in its history – through baptism, marriage, Sunday School, Bible Class and any of the various organisations and invite them to share in this celebration.

“Today our pilgrim parents
Still speak through our heritage;
We will treasure still their witness
And pass faith on from age to age”
