Does Shakespeare live in Martinborough…

Jun 2016

… , we don’t think so…but two of his actors do live there and they commute several times a week to The Globe Theatre in Greytown to rehearse their parts with other Globe Theatre actors in Henry IV, Henry V, Othello, Richard III, King Lear, Measure for Measure, Romeo and Juliet and other gems from his thirty seven plays. Meet Colton Stuart, Ben Adams and Ron Bywater, all Martinborough residents, who fit their Shakespearean words to the gesture and actions and the actions to the words.

Its 400 years since Will Shakespeare died and the world is celebrating this extraordinary playwright who left home, his new wife and baby to make his fortune in London. He did well and retired to Stratford in his early fifties but died soon after.
Two of his mates spent seven years collecting and assembling his plays for hwat people call The First Folio. They were published and have been in print ever since.

Two experienced producers are directing “Shakespeare Unleashed – Love, Lust, Lies”, Patrick Craddock who directed “Antigone” for the Greytown Little Theatre and Lynn Bushell who directed “Chunuk Bair” last year at Carterton.
The stage is set out like the Shakespearean Globe theatre, with the audience sitting on three sides. Costumes range from 400 years ago to the present day. You may be all of one metre away from the action. “Shakespeare Unleashed -Love, Lust, Lies is onstage at the Greytown Little Theatre from 29 June until 2 July.
