Martinborough Community Board

Oct 2015

Daylight savings is here and hopefully the promise of long sunny days in the Wairarapa. It is hard to believe that Christmas is also just around the corner. As the newest member of the Martinborough Community Board I am enjoying the challenge of finding out the ins and outs of the workings of the Board.

Strategic Grant Funding is a rewarding part of the work we do and we recently granted funding to Pirinoa School towards their Community Court Resurface Project and also Martinborough Hockey Club and Friends of Martinborough School (FOMS) who are working together on this year’s community bonfire and fireworks display event in November.

We have more applications to consider at our next meeting, following which our next round of funding applications open 1st February 2016 and closes 31st March 2016.

Also in the past month the Community Board supported the “Bee Aware” month. The South Wairarapa District Council was the first local authority to sign up for this campaign, to raise awareness for the humble bee. Bees are a huge part of the Martinborough industry needed to pollinate our olives, grapes and also the ever increasing honey industry we have.

Our Mayor was joined by a group of keen Martinborough School students from rooms 7 & 8 to help scatter the wild flower seeds, within Centennial Park with extra help from Hannah one of our hard working City Care gardeners.
