After a bravely coping with a long major illness the popular Star contributor and keen golfer Kevin Campbell has made his final departure from the greens he loved.
Kevin’s ‘Golf News’ column has been a part of the Star since it’s inception in it’s current form and for many years before that in the South Wairarapa Chronicle.
His chatty style led the articles to be more than just of interest to golfers and was widely followed. There is little doubt that his depiction of golf being such a very friendly game encouraged many to ‘give it a go’.
From an editorial point of view Kevin was wonderful to deal with, he was always friendly and anxious to be as helpful as possible. This included having his copy filed well before the deadline, which was always appreciated. However, as Sue can confirm, his handwriting could be a bit of a challenge at times.
Kevin’s lifetime interest has been golf which was acknowledged with the Golfer’s Prayer’ being included on the Order of Service sheet. And it is appropriate that we include it here with the Star’s reader’s, and my, ‘Thank You’ to Kevin for his wonderful contributions the the paper.
