Men’s Shed

July 2015

The idea of creating a Men’s Shed in Martinborough has gathered momentum after the Informational Meeting which attracted 55 interested people from Martinborough and beyond. The presentation by John Bush, Coordinator for the Henley Men’s Shed in Masterton, answered most of the questions as to the purpose of the shed. He pointed out that the programmes on offer can go well beyond a place to work on wood and metal projects.
Mike Woolley, Derek Wilson and Ric Geisler provided the status of the local effort to secure a site for the Shed. Although the programmes of our shed could be quite extensive, we will stick to basics first – a place to work on projects and socialise over a cuppa.

Since that meeting the Martinborough Shed has been given use of a council storage building across from Council Offices behind the i-Site. Some work will be needed to prepare the building for storage of donated tools, machinery and materials which are already being offered. We are in discussions with Council for a possible site for the shed itself.

An Inaugural Committee has been formed to define the organisational and operational structures of the Shed. The Committee is Ric Geisler, Derek Wilson, Mike Woolley, Colin Hadley, Bill Dolan, Colin Chamberlain and Kevin Lund.

Anyone interested in more information about the Men’s Shed are invited to contact one of the Committee members or email MartinboroughShed@gmail.com.
