The greens are improving all the time after the extensive work on them and have definitely benefited from the recent rain. Putts are now starting to drop more regularly again (for some more regularly than others!).
Many of our club members are busy with weekly working bees to tidy up the course, burning leaves and tidying up trees, and the renovations to the on-site flat will enable our new green keeper, Richard Whisker, to move in soon.
Our best news this month is that local girl Pip Kirk, our number one seed in the Women’s Landsdowne Trophy team, has amazingly slotted not one but two hole-in-ones’ this year during her interclub rounds for the Club. The first one was at Shandon and her second ace at Carterton.

The club also recently hosted the final round of the Marquis Shield Wairarapa Men’s Interclub competition for the year. The beautiful day allowed this years’ close competition to be played out in fair conditions. The Martinborough team scored 7-5 for the day and ended up 4th overall in the competition. Masterton were the eventual winners, with Mahunga and Carterton 2nd equal. Well done for avoiding the ‘wooden-spoon’ this year guys!
Finally, we pay our respects to our Vice President and past Club Captain Murdie Hancox. Murdie was a Life Member, a member of the Eagles and a great Ambassador for the Club. We are also feeling the loss of KC – the effervescent Kevin Campbell whom was a very active member of the Club and the Scribe of Club goings-on from the Chronicle in the 80’s thru to the WTA and Martinborough Star up until earlier this year. Our sincerest condolences go out to both of their families.
