June club night was phenomenal! We were privileged to have Patrick Bleakley, John Rae and their band “The Troubles”. This world-class band recently returned from the Edinburgh Festival. It featured saxophonist and composer Lucien Johnson and received a well-deserved standing ovation. http://sounz.org.nz/contributor/composer/1878
July features Bay of Plenty Bluesman Mike Garner with blues harp player extraordinary, Neil Billington. Mike is a respected blues singer/songwriter who has performed extensively in festivals in both Australia and here in New Zealand as well as touring the UK, Europe, Nepal, Japan and the Pacific.
Neil Billington, is NZ’s finest exponent of the blues harmonica, able to cover the blues greats on acoustic or amplified harmonica as well as the more demanding chromatic harp. He plays in the style of Little Walter, Paul Butterfield and Kim Wilson with an exciting stage presence.
Garner and Billington played to enthusiastic blues audiences in Tokyo last year, and have just returned from another tour of Japan. “Mike Garner is a superb vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Recommended for all blues enthusiasts.” – Peter Dent, NZ Musician.
