Chocolate any day but Sunday

July 2015

BY JOHN ANSELL

At 2am the dairy’s doors unlock
And through them pours a crowd demanding choc
Which richly flows, and on its foaming tide
The workers of the night are satisfied.
Eight hours on, the quizzers gather here
To take communion from the chocolatier
It’s said she makes the perfect coffee too
But I prefer the richer soothing brew.
No god devised a smoother brew to sup
Than chocolate lava flowing to a cup
Accompanied in its china nesting dish
By two marshmallows and a chocolate fish.
The choc-flecked froth a cushion for the lips
Through which the molten richness warmly slips
To thrill me to the chocolactic core
And leave the chocoholic craving more.
